interests
I am interested in a lot of things and that will eventually be reflected.
Islands, concentrations, obsessions, habits…whatever you want to call my areas of interest/knowledge. (And yes, finding the best wording or conceptual metaphor for them and the way to organize them would count as one, too.)
In the meantime, some links and placeholders:
- A blog. For temporaeous updates, personal news, highlights.
- Quotations. Collecting resonant sayings on index cards, back in middle school, was my first attempt at building a PKMS. Sometimes, but not always, related to
- Reading. For 6+ years now, I've read exclusively on a Kindle, which makes it easy (but not as easy as it could be) to save quotations and notes (digital marginalia). Highlights from online essays, maybe even whole poems which can be hard to find. I get my best ideas and media recommendations from other people (suck it, algorithm), so it's only fair to return the favor.
- House and Home, aka restless domesticity: projects, hacks, show-and-tell. True, being homeless the last few years has really cut in to my ability to do large/meaningful/lasting projects. But some of home is what you make it, and I've never stopped trying.
- ThriftLikeWhoa. Previously, an Instagram account I kept for over 8 years, sharing wtf photos and “catch and release” encounters from yep thrift stores and other lowlife landscapes. Moving to Germany seriously upset the “thrift” aspect of the account, but I still had some “wtf” stuff to share on it until degoogling at the end of 2025.
- CreatureReports. A record of wildlife photos, IDs, and encounters I make in my amateur-naturalist life lived almost entirely in man-made settings. These reports became a mainstay of my previous personal Instagram account, which I also degoogled from at the end of 2025.
- Food. I've been cooking since I was 7 years old. For decades, I've kept a “personal cookbook” of online recipes and techniques, but when my own kids wanted to start cooking recently, I realized that the “recipes online” and the “recipes as I actually make them” are different beasts, and nobody can see the latter except me. And since I now want to share favorite recipes with favorite people, I need to (finally) write down the way I do the food. I am a little curious if others with low energy or ADHD find my versions/approach useful.
- MPWYM. Maybe 15 years ago, I started research to write a book on adjusting to life with disability, with the working title Making Peace with your Meatbag. Then I had to have a kid, which opened up new insights on reproduction, gender, law, child development, even as one kid became two and demanded my time and attention. About the time I felt ready to write again, I had a midlife trans epiphany to navigate instead – but it did lead to exloring whole new branches of history, medicine, psychology, theory, sex, economics, theology, so it wasn't totally in vain.
- Make it right. Rants, verbal expressions of my desire to edit the world. Could be encapsulated in the Blog, but surely, many of my grievances are evergreen and deserve their own space.
- Inventions. Products, apps, and processes that should already exist. I've kept a notebook of these for years, but I frequently misplace it. I know that ideas are free, but a lot of people making things have the wrong ideas, so please, take these instead.
- Technology. Current mood: “everything I've ever learned about working with computers has been against my will.” The more I learn (UGH), the more ideas I have for why all of it should be easier, cheaper, and more satisying.
- This Site. The meta stuff, because while it's a collection of information, it's also An Undertaking.
